At the Chicago Auto Show Ford revealed an unusual, but probably very useful, new option for the 2015 F-150 pickup truck. It’s a snow plow prep kit, available across all cab configurations – Regular, SuperCab and SuperCrew.

The Snow Plow option is only offered on V8 models fitted with four-wheel drive, and is available across XL, XLT and Lariat trim levels. A lesser model wouldn’t be able to handle the job, apparently. What’s more, the plow needs to be installed by an authorized Ford dealer, and it has maximum light-duty plow weight of 450 pounds.

So no, you probably can’t start your own snow plowing business with this car. But it would be the perfect tool to clear your drive on a snowy day. You can then just ditch the plow and use the truck like you normally would.

“The new 2015 F-150 is the toughest F-150 ever, and by using more high-strength steel in its frame and advanced materials in the body, we’ve made the new truck up to 700 pounds lighter,” said Eric Peterson, Ford F-150 marketing manager. “This leads to more capability and better handling, which is exactly what you’d want for plowing. Adding a snow plow prep kit to our lineup helps ensure our customers have even more tools at their disposal to get the job done.”
