In response to the increasing demand for the new Corvette Stingray, Chevrolet’s top brass decided to increase the price of the car by a rather significant $2,000. It suddenly dawned upon them the car is rather underpriced for what it offers, especially when compared with the European rivals.
So if you want a brand-new 2014 Corvette Stingray, prices start from $53,995 now. And if you want the Performance Pack Z51, which you obviously do, well that one is increased as well, now costing up to $4,000. Same thing applies to the Convertible model, which is costing as near as makes no difference, 60 grand.
The Stingray, then, is starting to look not like the performance bargain it used to be, but an ATM machine for GM. That’s not very sporting of them, is it?
In fairness though, even at that price Corvette Stingray is offering plenty of value for money. To get the same sort of performance and features from a European sports car, namely Porsche 911, you have to spend well over $100K. It is no wonder then Chevrolet has so far sold nearly 4,700 units of the Stingray. The price bump is unlikely to slow down the progress.
