The highlight of Opel’s booth at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show is an “Extreme” version of the Astra OPC hot hatch. This insane model features a 300 horsepower and is still front- wheel-drive. But that’s not the craziest thing about it. That’d be the fact that Opel is actually going to produce it.

The Opel Astra OPC Extreme will be produced in strictly limited numbers, which is just as well, because we’re not sure it is going to work. I mean Opel has always had trouble making their high-powered front-wheel-drive cars handle properly. They struggle even with 20 horsepower. So what’s this one with 300 ponies is going to be like? It’ll probably start up already understeering into the nearest tree!

Handling skepticism aside, there is no denying that Opel Astra OPC Extreme is quite a looker; a fact best seen in this short video of the car captured at the Geneva Motor Show:

The source of power in the Opel Astra OPC Extreme is a 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine, with direct injection and variable camshaft phasing, with roots in endurance racing. The car had to be fitted with massive Brembo six-piston brake system including 370 mm diameter discs up front to cope with the fury of this powertrain. It also comes with 19-inch and sticky high-performance 245/35 tires.
