We are fairly certain you remember the Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak. For one thing, how can you forget a hatchback that looks so vicious and has 875 horsepower? Plus, last year it demolished the Pikes Peak hill climb record in the hands of Sebastian Loeb. Now the car is poised for another record, this time in England and the Goodwood estate.
Peugeot is bringing the 208 T16 – Loeb team to Blighty once more in hope to improve the official record for the 1.16-mile Goodwood hill climb course, which stands at 41.6 seconds, set by Nick Heidfeld in the McLaren MP4-13 in 1999.
They are certainly well-equipped for the job, as the 875bhp / 875kg Peugeot 208 T16 has already proved its otherworldly performance 14,000ft above sea level in Colorado. For the Goodwood challenge the car is tuned for sea level, which theoretically means it should perform even better.
What’s more, it will be guided by the magical hands of Seb Loeb. This guy can probably beat the record driving a 208 GTi. After years of negotiating tight bends and unforgiving chicanes in the World Rally Championship, the French would have no problem dealing with the narrow Estate road of Goodwood. It’ll be like a Sunday morning joy ride for him!
