Geneva 2014: Subaru VIZIV-2 Concept

Subaru’s lineup at this year’s Geneva Motor Show is headlined by the debut of a new crossover concept. The VIZIV-2 is a new iteration of a concept with the same name from last year’s show, and we are frankly amazed that during this time Subaru didn’t realize it has an utterly stupid name and they should change it.

Apart from that, the rest of the car appears to be a damn good crossover. It has the same size, 4.4 meters long, features an advanced all-wheel-drive system, and has an engine in complete tune with the time, a 1.6-litre turbo-diesel ‘DIT’ (Direct-Injection Turbo) Boxer coupled with three electric motors.

That makes for an ultra-sophisticated powertrain. While the diesel engine and front electric motor power the front wheels, at the rear two independent motors allow the same or different levels of torque to be applied to the left and right rear wheels, depending on driving conditions.

As interesting as that is, the real purpose of Subaru VIZIV-2 Concept is to preview the design of future Subaru crossovers. The hexagonal shape of the body with those dynamic lines, the shape of the headlights and the grille, these are elements that will be featured on future production cars.

In terms of technology, the car features the new EyeSight’s stereo camera system, a safety feature that works in tandem with the driving assist systems to fine-tune the engine and motor outputs in order to reduce fuel consumption and minimise emissions, while ensuring a safe and rewarding driving experience.
