Since the launch of the Jaguar F-Type with the roadster version there have been rumors flying around that the British company is going to make a lightweight, ultra-powerful, and in short, extreme version of the car, called the Club Sport. Jaguar fueled the fire with the Project 7 Concept (pictured above), but then it kind of died away.

Now though, the talk of a Jaguar F-Type Club Sport emerges again, suggesting this will be next variant of the sports car after the R Coupe. The Club Sport would be around 200kg lighter than the R, which means, if it gets the same 550 PS supercharged V8 engine, it’ll be able to hit 60 mph from standing still in just over 3 seconds.

Unlike the normal F-Type models which are tuned mostly for oversteery fun, the Club Sport would be a hard-core track car, with its chassis and suspension tuned for grip. The weight reduction could also result in a semi-stripped out interior, which means you will no longer get silly pop-up air vents or big chunky leather seats. Good!

At this point Jaguar is still toying with the idea of an F-Type Club Sport. They haven’t even decided whether it should get a V6 or a V8. But the company’s officials have confirmed that a lightweight, harder version of the F-Type has always been at the top of their list for the next developments of the car. The Club Sport could have a limited production run of 500 units a year.
