It is all but confirmed that Jaguar is slowly killing off the XK amid low sales figures and the fact that it sits in their shiny and modern lineup like an old dog. The XK might soon be gone, but Jaguar is not giving up on the idea of a big, luxurious grand tourer. They are in fact planning a new one.

Called the Jaguar XJ, the new model will be a bigger, softer, and posher version of the F-Type sports car with focus on ride comfort, luxury features, and styling presence. As a large 2+2 Coupe, the XJ would make a good rival for the likes of Bentley Continental GT, Aston Martin DB9, and the recently-revealed Mercedes S-Class Coupe.

According to the inside sources, Jaguar XJ will share many of its styling cues with the F-Type. The car will be, after all, based on the same platform. It is going to be less intimidating though, boasting swoopy lines and lovely curves, and a substantial amount of chrome. Just like the smaller car, Jaguar XJ is expected to supercharged V6 and V8 engine.

In any case, Jaguar XJ won’t be coming until 2017. Over the next three years Jaguar will be busy launching the new XE sports sedan and after that the long-awaited SUV. Only then we can expect a new coupe.
