It seems McLaren has already started the process of phasing out the 12C and replacing it with the more powerful, more expensive 650S. The British car makers has reportedly halted the production of the 12C and diverted the resources to the 650S project. They have apparently received enough orders for 650 during the Geneva Motor Show to go ahead with the plan.

It was almost a given that the 12C would get affected by the launch of the 650S. I mean, the new car is, in essence, a 12C with a bit more power, the headlights of the P1, and a £20K price premium. If the 12C was to stick around the 650 wouldn’t have an easy time in the market.

McLaren 650S comes in both Coupe and Spider forms, featuring a 3.8 liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 650 horsepower and nearly 680 m of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds and with a bit of encouragement can do 200 mph flat-out. Visually, the only difference between this car and the 12C is the front-end, which is inspired by the P1 hyper car.

Speaking of the visual features, McLaren has just launched a nifty online configurator for the 650S, allowing you to try all the available colors, wheel designs, and accessories on the car and marvel at the result. You can find it right here: McLaren 650S Online Configurator
