The first pictures of the new generation Toyota Aygo, the Japanese version of Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108 super minis, leak to the web a few days ahead of the car’s official debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Looking decidedly Japanese, the new Aygo features a sort of design that is guaranteed to spark a lot of controversy.

The new Toyota Aygo appears to be modeled on a ninja squirrel, with a Zoro mask. The mascara starts on the front bumper, which is fair enough, but then continues all the way to the grille, crosses the headlights and hit the wings. This certainly is not a styling feature that appeals to everyone.

It should also make the Aygo a harder sell, at least in Europe, seeing as underneath it is exactly the same car as the Peugeot 108 and Citroen C1, featuring a compact and clever packaging, and a range of frugal three-cylinder engines. The 108 is the most dignified looking of the three, while the Citroen is the quirkiest. The Aygo, well, this one’s just plain weird.

Official details are expected soon, as the car will be revealed in full tomorrow at the Geneva show.
