At the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month Opel revealed an Extreme version of its Astra OPC hot hatch which attracted a lot of attention. To maintain that attention a bit longer, they have now released a promotional video of the car showing it action. The thing is, there doesn’t seem to be much action going on in it.
Not that Opel Astra OPC Extreme is not capable of providing some proper action. We reckon the lack of flavor in this video is the director’s fault, because the car packs a massive punch in form of a 300 horsepower turbo engine, and it has all sorts of racing paraphernalia adorning its interior and exterior.
Opel Astra OPC Extreme is a concept car for the moment, but Opel has plans to produce a small number of it as a limited edition. The car boasts a racing body kit consisting of an aerodynamically-optimized rear wing, the diffuser, front spoiler, hood, suspension cross-bracing, the engine cover, complete wheels, rear wheelhouse ventilation and roof, all made from carbon fiber. Even the wheels are carbon fiber.
The engine is a 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine, with direct injection and variable camshaft phasing – the most powerful four-cylinder unit Opel has ever produced. To cope with its perofmance, the Extreme is fitted with a Brembo six-piston brake system including 370 mm diameter discs, ultra high-performance, 245/35, 19-inch tires, and adjustable suspension system.
