McLaren 12C Production Ends

mclaren 12c production ends 600x424 at McLaren 12C Production Ends

As expected, following the successful launch of the 650S McLaren officially ended the production of the 12C. They held on a bit at first to see how well the 650 will be received before announcing they are killing off the 12C. It wouldn’t make sense to continue producing the cars side by side, since they are pretty much identical.

The 650S is, in essence, a face-lifted version of McLaren 12C fitted with a P1-inspired nose and 30 more horsepower. It also features revised chassis, suspension, and exhaust system, so it is quicker, louder, and more exciting than the 12C. It is more expensive than the 12C, but nobody in their right mind would want buy the old car anymore. It is not like someone who is willing to spend 200 grand on a super car is going to sweat another 20.

McLaren is not forgetting about the 12C owners, though. Far from it. They have announced a free technology upgrade package for all 12c models, adding new active aero software and IRIS infotainment features. The owners will also be offered good deals on DAB radio and rear-view camera.

With the production of the McLaren 650S now in full swing, the British super car maker is free to pursue their other ambitious projects, namely the long-awaited Porsche 911 rival.
