Ariel Motors released the official details of the Atom 3.5R, a new version of the Atom track car upgraded looks, more power, and a fatter price tag. As we have reported before, Ariel Atom 3.5R packs a 350 horsepower punch and a paddle-shift gearbox, which is a first for the normal version.

The V8-powered Ariel Atom did have paddle shifters and customers apparently loved it. So they decided to introduce them in the standard four-cylinder version of the car. In the 3.5R the gearbox is connected to a hotted-up version of the same Civic Type R turbo engine as before, but here it benefits from increased boost and a better intercooler. As a result the output has been increased by 40 horsepower, up to 350.

Aside from the engine and transmission, Ariel Atom 3.5R also comes with revised suspension system featuring Ohlins dampers. Ariel says they enhance the car’s cornering capabilities, especially while exiting the bend. Paired with a limited-slip differential and uprated vented brakes, the 3.5R has everything it needs to deliver an even more exhilarating drive than before, and, of course, justify its hefty price tag.

Speaking of the price tag, Ariel Atom 3.5R will start from £80,000, which is of course a huge amount of money. But look at it this way: with a 0 to 60 mph time of 2.5 seconds, this car is faster than a McLaren P1. It is actually a right old bargain, this car!
