Jaguar released a new teaser image for the upcoming XE sports sedan on their Facebook page. Since the purpose of this teaser was to boast the car’s new platform, they wrapped the whole thing in a see-through film showing the skeleton of the car.
As you’d expect it is a bit weird but also quite interesting. You get to see the crumple zones in the Jaguar XE and the strengthening beams in the doors. The aluminum unibody chassis will be covered with aluminum body panels in the finished product, resulting in a lightweight yet rigid mid-size saloon, which is just the thing Jaguar needs to take on the BMW 3 Series with.
We know that Jaguar XE is getting a range of new four-cylinder engines which it will share with a new variant of the F-Type. But the F-Type is apparently going to share with XE too, namely its supercharged 3.0 liter V6 engine. So it is fair to say an XE-R version has already been planned to challenge the M3.
Jaguar XE is slated for production in late 2015.
