This was predictable, wasn’t it? Now that Ford is offering the Mustang with a four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, Chevrolet needs to do the same for the next Camaro to keep up with their arch rival. The 2016 Camaro is reportedly getting a 2.0 liter turbo unit.
Details and specs of this engine are yet to be revealed – well, the engine itself is yet to be confirmed by GM – but it is almost certainly the same 2.0 liter turbo you find in the Cadillac ATS and CTS. The engine is rated at 270 horsepower in the Cadillacs, so it will probably get a tweak for use in the Camaro. After all, the 2.3 liter EcoBoost in the 2015 Mustang generates over 300.
The addition of a small and efficient engine is not the only big news for 2016 Camaro. The car will be based upon the long-wheelbase Alpha platform which means it will be longer and considerably lighter than the current generation and will have different driving characteristics as well.
Styling-wise, the 2016 Camaro is said to have an evolutionary design which means the overall shape of the car will remain intact. But latest reports suggest it will get some retro styling cues inspired by the second-generation Camaro.
