After decades and decades of what was like a coma, the sports car industry in Britain is now fully resuscitated and is moving forward at a frighteningly fast pace. Every week we hear about a new firm presenting a new product, and they are all lightweight track toys.
The latest company to give this a go is Elemental, and they are unveiling their first product, called RP-1, at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Elemental RP-1 is a two-seat, road-legal track car featuring a carbon fiber tub and powered by, as is the case with most British sports cars, a Ford engine. The engine you find in this model is a 2.0 liter EcoBoost developing 276 bhp, which is a lot of power when you realize the whole thing weighs something like 450 kg.
With a projected price of around £50,000, Elemental RP-1 comes with features like a sequential paddle-shift transmission, configurable digital dashboard, footwell heating and secure storage space. So compared to other track-focused sports cars you can buy today, it is actually fairly well-equipped. Design-wise, the car appears to be rivaling the BAC Mono.
