Road-Going Bentley Continental GT3 Set for Goodwood Debut

Yep, it’s yet another new variant of the Continental GT! This one sounds pretty interesting though, at least on paper. The new version is a road-going version of the Bentley Continental GT3 race car, designed to be extremely light and powerful. And it’s rear-wheel-drive.

So in many ways the GT3 version is more “super” than the Continental SuperSport. The car is set to be a whole lot lighter than the standard V8 model, hence the absence of four-wheel-drive, and extensive use of carbon fiber in making the body panels.

Being a race car for the street, Bentley Continental GT3 will also feature radical aerodynamic changes, including a fixed rear wing at the back. Now that’s something we never thought we’d see on a Bentley… a wing! What is this car, a Subaru?

Even though the idea of a 700 horsepower, rear-wheel-drive Continental GT sounds intriguing, we really don’t get the logic behind it. Last time we checked Bentley was still a maker of the world’s finest luxury cars. Why would they want to make a fast, stripped-our car that shuns all their traditional values? And money is not a good excuse, even though the word is they have already received a lot of orders for the GT3.

Bentley Continental GT3 road car will makes its dynamic debut during the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
