In the latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage guitarist Paul Jackson Jr. brings out his restomod 1969 Oldsmobile 442. Paul has done a fine job with the restoration, but there are some issues with the practicality, as Jay finds out the hard way!
Paul’s 442 is fitted with Hotchkis suspension and rides on large wheels, which means the ground clearance is not plentiful. That’d be fine if the headers weren’t so huge. During his test drive Jay drives over a bump and the car bottoms out, causing some damage to those expensive headers.
This 1969 Oldsmobile 442 looks pretty much stock, but it features a big block crate engine with 370 horsepower. It barely does 5 miles per gallon, and it’s not even that fast. But it runs smooth and sounds like a classic muscle car should. This car has been a real labour of love. It is not perfect, but to the man who built it, it is the best car in the world.
