Looks like Infiniti is finally going to let go of the Essence concept which they took to every motorshow they went to, and replace it with a new one called the Inspiration. The difference is, this one actually has a production code, Q80, which means it is probably more than just a design study.

Set for debut at the next Paris Motor Show in October, Infiniti Q80 Inspiration is an “ingeniously aggressive four-passenger fastback,” according to the manufacturer. So it’s a whole new niche Infiniti is after with this car; one that is a cross between a sedan and a shooting brake, and more stylish than both.

Infiniti makes no secret of the fact that the Q80 is going “disturb the status quo” with its long-legged fastback body and human-centric style. It’s a good job Infiniti Q80 Inspiration will have an interesting design, because in terms of technicalities, the car will probably be based on a humdrum Mercedes sedan platform.
