So Autocar becomes the first magazine to stage a Porsche 918 vs McLaren P1 test, and they begin, as usual, with a drag race. They wanted to include the Ferrari LaFerrari in this test, but the Italians didn’t want to take part. So they replaced the Ferrari with something else red, fast and Italian, a Ducati 1199 Superleggera.

But forget about the bike. This is about which is faster, McLaren P1 or Porsche 918. Without any further ado let’s go find out:

So the P1 must be happy this drag race was a long one, because if it was a quarter mile run it would probably have lost to the 918’s combination of insane electric torque and four-wheel-drive. But as it is, the P1 surges past once they are over 130-40 mph and tops nearly 220 at the end of the runway.

It’s a shame Ferrari didn’t allow Autocar to test the LaFerrari as well. Could it be that they fear their hyper car might lose to the P1? Guess we have to wait for an independent test with privately-owned cars to find that out.
