Rolls-Royce’s gift to their fans at this year’s Paris Motor Show is a cool new version of the Phantom called Metropolitan Collection. It is limited to just 20 built-to-order units and celebrates old and new by mixing traditional craftsmanship with a design inspired by the modern metropolis.
Rolls-Royce Phantom Metropolitan Collection is an homage to the world’s great cities; a fact reflected in the meticulous application of marquetry that comes with each of the Metropolitan models. Each car features 500 individual wood veneer pieces with decorative motifs. Each one of these pieces takes days to be made by hand. The term ‘artwork on wheels’ has never been used more appropriately than to describe this car.
Complementing the exquisite wood work in this Rolls-Royce is a specially developed Aetherius Grey leather upholstery with two-tone stitching. They have actually counted the number of stitching the Phantom requires: 6,800! Another highlight of the interior is a rotating bezel expressing 24 of the great cities of the world and their time zones featured on the car’s Bespoke clock.
The default exterior color for Rolls-Royce Phantom Metropolitan is Darkest Tungsten, inspired by city skylines, but customer can choose their own color from a palette of 44,000 choices. The exterior is completed with a hand-applied coachline that depicts an abstract silhouette of modern skyscrapers.
