Besides the new Ford GT, the Blue Oval also revealed at this year’s Detroit Motor Show a new version of their popular pickup truck, the F-150 Raptor. Just like the GT, the new Ford F-150 Raptor, slated for production in 2017, has been on a diet and has become a lot more efficient while losing none of its visual charm.
The biggest highlight of the new Ford F-150 Raptor is the high-strength steel frame and military-grade, aluminum-alloy body that result in a weight saving of 500 pounds. That is not only good for economy, it also makes the truck more agile and nicer to drive.
The combination of the light weight with a powerful EcoBoost engine results in a highly capable workhorse in the new Raptor. The engine in question is a high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost which “more powerful” than the current 411-hp and 434 lb.-ft. of torque V8 unit. It will be paired with an all-new 10-speed transmission for improved efficiency and four-wheel-drive.
All the good stuff about the previous Ford F-150 Raptor are updated and upgraded in the new model. It comes with larger FOX Racing Shox with more suspension travel and all-new terrain management technology; 17-inch wheels with next-generation BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires; and AdvanceTrac stability control.
