As promised, during the Autosport International at the NEC Birmingham, Lister Cars unveiled the reborn Knobbly race car as a 60th anniversary gift to itself. Underneath, Lister Cars Knobbly is mostly Jaguar D-Type.

That, of course, makes the Knobbly a very special car. But the car’s main party piece is the fact that it’s built using the late Brian Lister’s original drawings and manufacturing jigs. The engine powering this beast is race-prepared Jaguar D-Type 3.8-litre straight-six, producing 330bhp which fully complies with FIA regulations and can be entered in a series of Lister historic race meetings planned during 2015.

Lister is going to make 10 Knobblies, which they reckon won’t be enough, given the overwhelmingly positive feedback they are receiving. With this car you don’t just get a piece of automotive history, the Knobbly is also a serous sports car capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 181mph. Needless to say, all this magnificence won’t come cheap. But there is no need to depress you by mentioning the price tag, as all the planned 10 units are already sold.

Lister Cars chairman Lawrence Whittaker said: “It’s a testament to the quality and skill of our workforce and the reverence with which the brand is held that we’ve been overwhelmed by the response to the reborn ‘Knobbly’. With the limited run of ten cars now sold out, we are looking at creating three individual special final editions, each giving a distinct nod to the incredible racing heritage of the ‘Knobbly’.”
