The latest teaser for the new generation Chevrolet Camaro is not as intriguing as the one with the exhaust note, but it touches on a very important fact about the 2016 Camaro. The Gen 6, like its big brother Corvette Stingray, is truly all-new.
Chevy says that from the Bowtie badge to the rear spoiler, the 2016 Camaro is an all-new product. That is, of course, not entirely true. So they quickly correct that statement by pointing out that in fact 70 percent of the components used in the Gen 6 are genuinely new and developed specifically for this model. That is still pretty impressive and if the Stingray is any indication, the new stuff are far greater at their intended roles than the one they will replace.
The engine in the 2016 Camaro SS model is the 6.2 liter LT1 V8 you find in the Stingray, but here 20 percent of the parts are tailored for the Camaro, including this cool tubular “tri-Y”-style exhaust manifolds you see below.
“Our global engineering team is incredibly passionate about Camaro, and they sweated all the details to make Gen 6 the best Camaro we could possibly put into the hands of our customers,” said Mark Reuss, GM executive vice president, Global Product Development.
