McLaren 570S aka Sports Series: New Details

McLaren Sports Series 3 600x399 at McLaren 570S aka Sports Series: New Details

Fresh details have become available on McLaren’s next major debut, planned for 2015 New York Auto Show, which is an all-new model known as the Sports Series. According to the latest reports the new British sports car is called McLaren 570S.

If you know your McLaren and their unimaginative naming policy, you have already guessed how much horsepower this compact and lightweight sports car will possess. That’s right, McLaren 570S will have 570 horsepower, coming from the same 3.8 liter bi-turbo unit they use in all of their products. For the 570S they have just detuned it a little, but it still powerful enough to challenge cars like the new Audi R8 or Porsche 911 Turbo.

McLaren 570S will go through the same cycle the 12C and 650S have, which means it will first be launched as a coupe, to be followed by a Spider model featuring a folding hardtop. There is a slight chance McLaren might try something new with the 570S and make a GT version of it with a big boot and enhanced practicality. That would be a whole new territory for the prestigious auto maker to explore.

Since McLaren 570S is pitched as a direct rival for the Porsche 911 Turbo, you can expect it to have similar performance figures – 0-100 in just over 3 seconds and a top speed of around 300 km/h. It should also be priced similarly, i.e. somewhere in the neighborhood of $170K.
