Red Bull F1 team may not be winning races anymore, but they are as cool as ever and more keen on pulling elaborate publicity stunts than ever before. In the two weeks rest time they’ve got until the first European round of the season they decided to go to Vienna for a spot of relaxing Waltz.
Once in Austria they went straight to the historic Vienna Rathaus which is the appropriate place to go if you want to waltz. But then somebody noticed there is a nice patch of asphalt in front of the venue. So they went there instead, letting loose Daniel Ricciardo in an RB8 racer to do all sorts of crazy things. Turns out this is a lot cooler than slow dancing to Chopin’s nocturnes.
Red Bull Live Demo display in Vienna also includes stunts by enduro and trials rider Chris Pfeiffer on his bike and GP2 driver Pierre Gasly who went berserk in a NASCAR racer. The show attracted a crowd of 60,000 people, among them Gerhard Berger, Dr. Helmut Marko and Niki Lauda who came to help publicize the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix.
“The event went really well – the backdrop was amazing,” concluded Ricciardo. “We’ve been to some pretty cool places, but this is definitely one at the top of the list. Hopefully it gave the fans who came out a small taster of what they can expect at Spielberg in June.”
