Rolls-Royce Dawn Announced for 2016 Launch

So what we were expecting as the drop-top version of the Wraith has now been officially confirmed and it’s called the Rolls-Royce Dawn. They have called it Dawn because apparently it represents “a new dawn in super-luxury motoring.”

Described as “beguilingly visceral,” the Rolls-Royce Dawn has already been shown to a select group of RR representatives at the Rolls-Royce World Dealer Conference in Los Angeles, California. The rest of us mortals will have to wait until a major motor show, most likely in Paris, to catch our first glimpse of the new Roller. But really it’s just a Wraith with its roof chopped off.

The name Dawn was first used by Rolls-Royce in 1949, but only ever applied to 28 very special drophead bodies between 1950 and 1954. Given how special this nameplate is, chances are RR will give the Dawn certain bespoke features to set it apart from the normal Wraith which is, as you know, the most dynamic Rolls ever.

“Our new Rolls-Royce Dawn promises a striking, seductive encounter like no other Rolls-Royce to date,” said Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, Chief Executive Officer. “Dawn is a beautiful new open-top motor car with a name that suggests the fresh opportunities that every new day holds – an awakening, an opening up of one’s senses and a burst of sunshine. It will be the most social of super-luxury motor cars for those beautiful people who wish to bathe in the sunlight of the world’s social hotspots.”
