A number of patent photos have made their way to the interwebs, depicting a car that looks like it might be a convertible version of the new Acura NSX sports car. There is no doubt this thing is related in one way or another to the NSX, but as for the Convertible part, well that’s just speculation for the time being.
It does make a lot of sense though, if these patent belong to a 2018 Acura NSX Convertible. The roof arrangement on this car seems similar to what we are seeing more and these days on high-end super cars like Lamborghini Aventador or Koenigsegg Agera, because a soft-top frankly is too old-fashioned. The detachable carbon fiber parts double as a hardtop, but can easily be stowed away in the boot where there is no need for them.
Another idea suggests this cool-ass Acura NSX you see here might be a hot version of the yet-to-be-released sports car, being planned for a possible release some years down after the standard version has hit the market. That would explain the drastically altered front and rear fascia compared to the normal NSX. This one feature slimmer headlights, larger air intakes, more prominent aero parts, and, of course, a different roof arrangement.
Time will tell which of these lines of thoughts is correct.
