Hyundai Motors announced the launch of a new performance sub-brand at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show next month with the debut of two new concept models and a new rally car. Focusing on performance-oriented and race-track-capable models, Hyundai N builds on the brand’s successful motorsport experiences.
They have done this right. Rather than rushing into making a performance sub-brand and claiming they can take on AMG and M GmbH, Hyundai took its time developing a credible motorsport career with contenders in the world rally stage, rallycross, and drifting championships. Now those experiences will trickle down to high-performance road cars.
At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Hyundai N will showcase a preview of the new generation i20 WRC rally car which is currently under development in preparation for its debut at the start of the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship at Rallye Monte Carlo. The rally car will be joined by the Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo and the Veloster-based mid-engine Hyundai RM15 concept.
The former is, as the name suggests, Hyundai’s offering for the Vision GranTurismo campaign and will be available exclusively in the video game. The latter is a 300 horsepower sports car that could, in one form or another, see production in the near future.
