Mazda RX-Vision Rotary Concept Unveiled

More and more car makers are calling their concepts “Vision” these days, but in the case of the Mazda RX-Vision, that name actually bears some meaning. This is the rotary concept we’ve been waiting for forever so long. It is the vision of a future Mazda RX.

Of course, you can tell that much from the car’s name. But there is more to Mazda RX-Vision than just an empty gesture. The front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car with its KODO design features a SKYACTIV-R rotary engine. Now, they wouldn’t put the SKYACTIV badge on this thing if it was going to end on a shelf somewhere. Mazda is actually pretty enthusiastic about the project.

For Mazda to actually go ahead and even think about building another rotary-engined car in this market, it’s a very bold ad brave move. Of course, they have made it clear that “mass production is currently on hold,” but they are also quick to remind us that Mazda never shies away from challenge. So we’d say yes, you can safely bet on seeing a new rotary Mazda on the roads in the near future. For now, keep an eye out for this concept at the Tokyo Motor Show on November 8.

“I look forward to talking with you more about this vision we revealed here today at the Mazda stand,” said Mazda’s Representative Director, President and CEO Masamichi Kogai. “Mazda will continue to take on new challenges in an effort to build a special bond with our customers and become their one and only brand.” The Tokyo Motor Show opens to the public from 30 October to 8 November.”
