Continuing the great tradition of auctioning off the first production unit of their new cars for charity, General Motors announced the very first copy of the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Collector’s Edition will go under the hammer at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach later this week (April 8).
All of the proceeds from the sale – which if previous sales are any indication is going to be a lot – will benefit the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute which is a Detroit-based center of research, patient care and education, dedicated to the prevention, early detection, treatment and eventual eradication of cancer. Karmanos; efforts help cancer patients all around the world.
Arguably the finest version of the new Stingray, Corvette Grand Sport Collector’s Edition comes with a Watkins Glen Gray Metallic exterior with Tension Blue hash-mark graphics, satin black full-length stripes, black wheels and an exclusive Tension Blue full leather and suede-wrapped interior, all of which hark back to the original Grand Sport ‘Vette.
The car also features a 6.2L LT1 V8 engine, capable of 460 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque which makes it an even sweeter proposition. But if you fancy one you can only get one of the later production models, because chances are Rick Hendrick will snatch this one up as well.
