Yes, it’s another special edition Chevy truck coming to you in form of a package, but it’s a good’un. Called Chevrolet Silverado High Desert, a name that implies extreme toughness and off-road prowess, the new model is based on a 2014 SEMA concept.
To be launched this fall, Chevrolet Silverado High Desert package will be available for LT, LTZ, and High Country trim levels and adds to them a host of new features and styling upgrades such as 20-inch wheels with all-season tires (22-inch available).
One of the main highlights is an all-new flexible, lockable storage system in the cargo bed for more precious items you may want to carry. It consists of dual side storage bins and a three-piece hard tonneau cover. You get more cargo delivery goodness inside the bed as well, with a cargo divider that can be raised to secure smaller items, or lowered to access the full length of the bed floor. And of course you get tailgate locks with the keyfob. This truck is a delivery man’s wet dream.
Magnetic Ride Control suspension is another one of Chevrolet Silverado High Desert, a sophisticated system featuring magneto-rheological fluid containing minute iron particles and many sensors which adapt themselves to the road, usually found on high-end sports cars. It should work specially well with the LTZ’s 320-hp EcoTec3 6.2L V-8 engine.
