The summer of 2016 has been so far a ripe season for the Ferrari 550 Maranello family, including Barchetta and Superamerica, as more and more of them appear on the auction block all over the world. It could be because they have picked in terms of price, but at any rate, the Maranello is a fabulous piece of Ferrari history and a very desirable modern classic to have.

All of that makes the person who bought this baby at Silverstone Auctions’ Salon Privé sale this past weekend a very happy boy. He snatched the car up at £180,000 which was the bottom price for the car. But that’s not the best thing about it. This Ferrari 550 Maranello is one of the finest examples in the world with only 1,977 original miles on the clock. Although these models are kind of slow to appreciate, a virtually brand-new model like this is going to hold its value pretty good and ten years from now earn its owner around 50K in revenue.

This right-hand-drive 550 also has a fairly interesting history. When it was sold in 1998 by HR Owen by trailer to the first owner, a resident of the Isle of Man. For some reason the car just sat there and in the course of twelve years covered only 300 miles. Then in 2009 it was sold to a resident of Sussex who was a bit harder on the car and managed to squeeze 250 miles for each year that he owned the car. This car is said to have never been used on a wet road!
