Honda released the first details of the all-new 10th generation Accord sedan ahead of the car’s fall 2017 launch. The revealed information about the 2018 Honda Accord relates only to its powertrains, but it is big news since the popular family car has dropped its V6 engine in favor of a turbo four-pot.

But don’t worry, because this four banger is a good one. In fact, it is the same unit that powers the latest Civic Type R, and we know from that car’s track performance it is more than capable of carrying its own weight. The drivetrain options for the 2018 Honda Accord, then, includes two direct-injected and turbocharged 4-cylinder engines, a new Honda-developed 10-speed automatic transmission and a sporty 6-speed manual transmission that will be available on both turbo engines, as well as the next-generation of Honda’s two-motor hybrid powertrain technology.

Besides the 2.0 liter i-VTEC turbo unit mentioned above (which gets the 10-speed ‘box, the first-ever fitted to a front-wheel-drive car), there is also a 1.5-liter direct-injected DOHC Turbo with dual variable cam timing (dual VTC), mated to either a Honda continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) or 6-speed manual transmission. The forthcoming two-motor hybrid model will get a conventional automatic. 2018 Honda Accord will be as America as Apple Pie, with the new engines being built at Honda’s Anna, Ohio engine plant, the CVT transmission at Russells Point, and the new 10-speed automatic transmission at the Tallapoosa, Georgia plant.
