Before you jump to conclusions and think Fiat has suddenly become the world’s top auto maker in sales, let us point out that the delivery of the 1,495 Fiat 500 cars in less than two days – which is now a Guinness world record – was a premeditated plan carried out with the help of Italian supermarket Esselunga. And they didn’t sell these, they gave them away!
Still, the fact that Italian managed to be punctual enough to deliver these Fiat 500s to their new owner in less than 48 hours is a remarkable feat. The original plan to giveaway 1,520 Fiat 500s, but some people didn’t show up to collect. Those who did came from more or less all over Italy: Lazio, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Veneto, Liguria, Lombardy and Piedmont. And they assembled with their Pastel White Fiat 500 cars to create some memorable scenes.

The Fiat 500 “Esselunga” was developed specifically for for the competition in association with the Fiat Design Centre, with customised personalisation. Based on the Lounge 1.2 69 HP trim level, it features the exclusive “Esselunga” badge on the pillar, the numbered plaque in the interior, chrome mirror cabs and specific “Color Therapy” 14″ wheels. The Fiat 500 that starred in the competition is in Pastel White colour with Ivory interior. The standard outfit is lavish, with seven airbags, climate control, Uconnect 5″ Radio LIVE infotainment system, AUX-IN and USB port, steering wheel controls and LED daytime running lights.
