Being the luxury sub-brand of Hyundai, Genesis is constantly on the lookout to improve their game and make their cars comparable to the European rivals. This time they have found an area improvement that doesn’t really have anything to do with the actual car. Genesis Virtual Guide is really a fancy user manual that is only harder to figure out than a traditional one if you are older than thirteen.
But hey, it’s something they can flaunt in the face of the competition and maybe even impress a few customers enough to consider the Genesis G80 as their next luxury sedan over the established Merc or Bimmer. Genesis Virtual Guide makes use of augmented reality technology so any part of the car you know nothing about or can’t figure out how to operate you just point your smartphone camera on it and the app, recognizing the bit you are seeking information on, loads up the appropriate part of the user manual. And best of all, it’s interactive and has movies and stuff so you won’t even have to read text.

Genesis Virtual Guide app contains a number of informational guides including: 135 how-to videos and 25 3-D overlay images that appear once users scan areas of their vehicle, like the engine bay. It’s a pretty smart thing, but the truth is most Genesis buyers are not anything like the young and tech savvy woman featured in this video, but men who have gone past their middle age and many of them have trouble dialing a number with a smartphone, let alone use augmented reality. Still, it’s a pretty good effort on Hyundai’s part and definitely a plus for Genesis cars in those comparison tests.
