Infiniti, the luxury sub-brand of Nissan, is not exactly known for the soul and passion of their products for the simple reason that they are but cosmetically enhanced Nissans. That’s why we were a bit surprised when we heard of the Infiniti Retro Prototype which is set for debut at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

This Infiniti Retro Prototype concept is inspired by “heritage” which refers to a barn find Japanese race car they came across a while back. They speak of roots and spirit and craftsmanship when discussing this car, which are heavy words for a company founded 1989 to sell modern luxury cars with lots of plastic and industrial leather.

It started as a simple thought– what if we found a car, down at the Southern tip of Japan, buried deep in a barn, hidden from all eyes for 70 years. What if in this car we found the seed of passion planted during our first Japanese Grand Prix and the power and artistry of INFINITI today? What would this discovery look like?”

But hey, it is still great that they are getting into this whole passion thing. Hopefully this retro model will affect the look and feel of their future production models. It will affect the technology, no doubt, since Infiniti Retro Prototype, despite being retro, uses an advanced EV powertrain.
