The first production Mazda to feature SKYACTIV technologies launched in Japan as the new facelifted Mazda2 or Demio as it’s known in Japan.

The SKYACTIV-enabled Mazda2 gets a 1.3 liter petrol unit with 14:1 compression ratio, six-point injection system, dual sequential valve timing system, low friction components, and start/stop system. The car also features a CVT transmission with seven-speed manual mode that helps the car achieve even better fuel efficiency.

All these efforts have resulted in an astonishing fuel economy of 3.3 liter per 100 km equal to 85 mph UK equal to 70 mpg US, with CO2 emissions of under 100 g/km. The power is not that impressive, at 82 hp.

The car also comes with a system called i-DM in the Japanese market which gives the driver eco tips and information, and helps him or her drive more economically.

This is the Japan-only model. Specs for European models are yet to be revealed.
