Next Corvette ZR1 Could Get 700 Horsepower

Chevrolet Stingray 545x381 at Next Corvette ZR1 Could Get 700 Horsepower

While the whole world is eagerly awaiting arrival of the first Corvette Stingray models in the showrooms, Chevrolet’s top brass is already thinking about the ZR1 super car version. The current Corvette ZR1 didn’t have an easy birth, but it turned out to be a great kid. So they want to make sure the new one will get all it needs to continue the success of its predecessor.

How are they going to do that? It’s easy: give it more power. Reports from GM headquarters suggest the new ZR1 will pass the 700 horsepower mark. The way they’ve worked it out is because the next Z06 is said to be getting 600 horsepower. Obviously, the ZR1 must get a whole lot more to make sense.

The Z06 is, apparently, not getting the newer LT1 V8. It will be powered by an updated version of the current 7.0 liter engine. The ZR1 though, that is getting the LT1, with a meaty supercharger bolted on top.

The first Corvette ZR1 was basically developed in secrecy because the engineers were not sure how the brass would react to it. But now that the ZR1 is GM’s baby, they are going to have a much easier time doing it the way they want.
