What better way to test the new BMW X4 sport SUV – or crossover, if you like – than comparing it head to head against its main rival, Porsche Macan. That’s what Autocar’s Steve Sutcliffe though when he was tasked with the job finding out which how good the new X4 is.

He took both cars to a private test track full of tight bends, main straights, and an off-road course for the ultimate BMW X4 vs Porsche Macan showdown:

So it all comes down to this: BMW X4 is brilliant at what it’s supposed to do as a sport SUV, but the Macan is just a little bit more brilliant. The Porsche is nicer to drive, cheaper, more practical, and of course more beautiful – or less ugly, whichever you prefer. In the end it all comes down to brand loyalty.
