New Ford Fiesta RS on the Cards

Much to the delight of hot hatch enthusiasts, news emerge that Ford might be working on an even sportier version of the highly acclaimed Fiesta ST. This model will most likely be badged Ford Fiesta RS and it will come with a serious amount of power.

The Fiesta ST is widely acknowledged to be one of the finest hot hatches ever made, even though it is considerably less powerful than almost all its rivals. A new RS variant, then, could potentially be absolutely brilliant, as it will address the power issue while reinforcing all that is good about the ST.

As Ford Performance Manager Tyrone Johnson explains to Autocar magazine, for a Ford model to be called ‘RS’ it has to be significantly more powerful and faster than the ST version, which are mildly enhanced versions of the standard car. That is a hint that if do a Ford Fiesta RS, they are going to do it right.

Johnson refused, however, to commit when asked about the possibility of a Fiesta RS, hinting only vaguely that it being “theoretically possible,” and that “if there’s a business case and if it’s technically feasible,” they will make it happen.
