Only a few weeks ago Honda treated their European fans to the new Civic Type R at the Geneva Motor Show. Now at the New York Auto Show they are doing the same thing for the Americans, but with an all-new Honda Civic Concept boasting refreshingly cool looks.

The Type R is indeed coming to the U.S., but the Honda Civic Concept you see here will underpin the normal models a wider variety of customers can enjoy. The  lineup will include Civic Sedan, Coupe and Si plus the Civic hatchback and the aforementioned Type R. Longer wheelbase, lower and wider stance, longer hood, a shorter front overhang, a more set-back greenhouse and a shorter rear deck are among the main design features of the new model.

The 10th generation Civic previewed by this Honda Civic Concept will also set new standards in terms of dynamism and efficiency, boasting the firm’s celebrated Earth Dreams engines including a new 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo unit mated a short-shifting six-speed manual gearbox. Technology-wise, Civic buyers will benefit from high-end stuff such as  Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Multi-Angle Rearview Camera, Adaptive Cruise Control and Honda LaneWatch.

“The new Civic will be, flat out, the most dynamic, the most technologically advanced and the most refined and stylish Civic we’ve ever made,” said John Mendel, executive vice president, Automobile Division, American Honda Motor Co., Inc.  “In every way, this will be an epic Civic.”
