The first serious crash of the 2016 Gumball 3000 super car rally has happened to one of the most serious contenders. The car in question is a fully kitted out Gumpert Apollo and it ended up in a ditch somewhere in outskirts of Edinburgh, Scotland.

As far crashes go, the Apollo’s mishap is a fairly light one. The car was protected to some extent by the shrubs and bushes of the overgrown ditch and didn’t suffer extensive damage. The driver was awfully lucky though, as according to eye witnesses he missed a tree a telegraph pole when he spun out of control and went on the grass.

It goes to show how unfriendly the twisty Scottish roads are with raw super cars such as Gumpert Apollo, especially after a light shower. The Apollo is powered by an Audi-sourced V8 engine sending over 600 horsepower to the rear wheels. That setup, combined with a nervous chassis and semi slick tires makes this car a bit of a handful.
