A while ago Mazda released some teasers of a concept car for this year’s IAA, a superlight stripped-out version of the MX-5 roadster, and now we have more details about it. This extreme roadster is really an ultimate expression of what the MX-5 stands for, simple and honest driving pleasure rather than complexity of electronic this and computer controlled that!
The Superlight Concept weights below 1000 kg, which is relevant because it has no roof, no windshield, no doors, no anything! Even in side the carbon you won’t find much more than two bucket seats for you and your co-driver! The car is powered by Mazda’s 1.8 liter MZR engine developing 126 hp and 167 nm of torque. This engine along with the fact that this car is superlight, make it quit a performer while it also remains efficient. It only uses 6,3 l/100km.
