honda CR Z at More details on production version of Honda CR Z

So Honda has killed the NSX supercar project entirely and instead is giving us this, the CR-Z hybrid sports coupe! This car has been recently confirmed for production after spending some years as only a concept model, and according to Honda officials the real car will not be any different at least designwise. In fact CR-Z’s shape can very well be the new face of Honda sports car.

Although it is supposed to be a sports coupe, the hybrid powertrain considered for it does not sound very sporty! It is known that it consists of a petrol engine coupled to an electric motor delivering power through a six-speed manual gearbox (first rumors said that it will feature a CVT). However, things are not clear what kind of petrol engine will be used. Some say it’ll be a 2.0 liter, others say it’s a 1.5 liter four-cylinder with more focus on efficiency than power. So a combined power of way less than 200 hp is expected for this car, which is honestly nowhere near enough for a “sports” car.

The actual production version of the Honda CR-Z will be shown at next Detroit Motor Show and it will go on sale next summer as a 2011 model. Honda promises that the CR-Z will bring new levels of engagement and fun to customers interested a small car or a hybrid vehicle.
