Like most of other manufacturers, if not all of them, Peugeot’s main focus is green technologies at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. But they also have a couple of new premieres like the new-look 308 or the 508 that gets officially launched.
But even those car’s main highlight are the hybrid variants powered by e-HDi micro-hybridisation system. Another very important Peugeot to debut in Geneva is the 3008 HYbrid4 which gets the first diesel hybrid in the world. The 100 percent electric iOn, limited edition RCZ, the 908 Le Mans car and the HR1 concept are other features of Peugeot’s booth at the Geneva show.
Peugeot Sport will also be unveiling a new concept car, but they are reluctant to talk about it for the time being.
In the year of its 200th anniversary, Peugeot achieved an all-time record in terms of global sales, up 16.3% to 2,142,000 units. To continue this momentum in 2011, Peugeot is unveiling more new products in Geneva, reaffirming its environmental leadership and offering its vision of the mobility of tomorrow.
Press Release:
- The world premiere of the new 308: technological, efficient and elegant
After three-and-a-half years on the market, with 900,000 models sold in more than 100 countries (some 84,000 in the UK) the 308 gets a new look and receives its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show.
The new 308 subtly incorporates the Marque’s new stylistic codes and all three body shapes, Hatchback, SW and Coupé Cabriolet adopt a more sophisticated elegance which is both assertive and dynamic.
While the new 308 confirms the dynamic excellence for which the car has been renowned since its launch, it now sets the benchmark in terms of environmental efficiency: contributing factors include its weight, reduced by 25 kg, tyres with ultra-low rolling resistance, redesigned aerodynamics (Cx from 0.28: a record in the segment), and optimised engines – four petrol models from 98 to 200 bhp and four HDi engines from 92 to 163 bhp.
Its 1.6 litre HDi FAP 112 bhp Euro 5 engine, equipped with innovative e-HDi Stop&Start technology, paves the way for CO2 emissions of 98 g/km – another new record in the segment.
- The commercial launch of the Peugeot 508
With the new 508 (launched in the UK at the end of April), Peugeot reaffirms its ambitions in one of its traditional strong holds, the large touring car segment.
With the offer of a Saloon or SW body styles, a wide choice of economic petrol and diesel engines ranging from 112 to 204 bhp and its innovative equipment, the 508 is a modern car fully attuned to the aspirations of dynamic, demanding and responsible customers.
With the 508, Peugeot continues its international objectives: produced in France (Rennes) for all markets except China, it will also be manufactured in its Saloon version in China (Wuhan), ready to go on sale from July 2011 on the world’s fastest growing car market.
- Limited edition RCZ
At Geneva, the RCZ reveals ‘Asphalt’ a ‘limited edition’ model available in the spring of 2011: it stands out from the 200 bhp production version by its exclusive matt grey body colour, its two-tone 19’’ wheels and numerous distinctive features both outside and inside that give it an unmistakeable sporty appearance.
Launched in the spring of 2010, the RCZ has already attracted more than 17,000 customers in Europe (2,500 in the UK), exceeding 2010 targets.
- Success in the MPV segment
For their first full year on the market, the 3008 and the 5008 recorded sales of more than 200,000 in 2010, 25% above target, and demand continues to be greater than supply capacities.
The two models, complementary yet sharing similarities in terms of capacity, modularity, comfort and dynamic qualities, have established Peugeot as a major player in the highly competitive ‘Compact MPV’ market, where the Marque lacked any presence less than two years ago.
The environmental objective
- the 3008 HYbrid4, the world’s first Diesel Hybrid: in Geneva, as a limited edition
With its launch of the world’s first diesel hybrid vehicle, from mid-2011, Peugeot presents a new and original offer in terms of environmental efficiency and driving sensations.
On the 3008 Crossover, the hybridisation of a diesel engine (2.0 HDi FAP163 bhp) driving the front wheels and an electric motor with a capacity of 37 bhp at the rear sets the scene for 4-wheel drive, a maximum power output of 200 bhp, a “zero emission” mode and standardised average fuel consumption of 74.3 mpg.
Coupled with a new driving enjoyment the 3008 Hybrid4 is a breakthrough in terms of CO2 emissions at just 99 g/km, a 35% reduction compared to a combustion engine of comparable power.
At Geneva, Peugeot presents a Limited Edition 3008 HYbrid4: the 300 numbered cars, in Pearlescent White with two-tone full leather trim, can be reserved online as soon as the Motor Show opens.
In 2012, the 508 will be the second Peugeot model to benefit from the HYbrid4 power train.
- e-HDi micro-hybrid technology on the 508 and the new 308
The 508 and the new 308 are the forerunners of the innovative e-HDi technology, a new generation Stop&Start system. e-HDi couples the 1.6 litre HDi Euro 5 engine with a reversible alternator for the Stop&Start function. Together with a system that recovers energy during deceleration and a hybrid battery that delivers additional energy on start-up (e-booster), the HDi unit allows:
– a 15% reduction in fuel consumption in urban traffic
– 40% faster restarting than with a reinforced starter system
– engine cut-out before the vehicle comes to a complete standstill
– enhanced driveability (silent operation, absence of vibrations) and operating temperatures.
To meet changing trends in car use, Peugeot presents a new vision and concrete answers to the challenge of tomorrow’s mobility.
- With the HR1 Concept Car, Peugeot combines the worlds of the city run-around, coupé and SUV….Urban, distinctive and innovative, HR1 is aimed at young, active city dwellers with a liking for design and technology. The HR1 Concept Car is inspired by new trends in hyper-connectivity, modularity and responsiveness, and offers a refreshingly new driving experience.
The ‘scissor’ door system facilitates access to a structured passenger compartment that is incredibly innovative and modular.
The HR1 features HYbrid4 technology, here combining an original 3-cylinder 1.2 THP petrol engine at the front with a rear electric motor to offer a potential power output of 147 bhp, reduced CO2 emissions (80 g/km, or 0 in electric mode), and 4-wheel drive.
- With Mu by Peugeot, a radically innovative rental offer covering cars, scooters, bikes, light commercial vehicles and accessories, Peugeot has invented a “new generation” vehicle rental for city dwellers.
Through the depth of its offer, its flexibility and its affordable prices, Mu by Peugeot has already won more than 6,000 customers in 13 European cities. Its deployment continues, both geographically with the opening of a further 75 sites for Mu by Peugeot in Europe, and in terms of content, with the appearance of the electric Peugeot iOn and associated services (online booking, valet parking, car sharing, etc).
Peugeot Sport: the world premiere of the new 908
The new 908, unveiled by Peugeot Sport in February, embodies the Marque’s dynamism on the Peugeot stand.
The goal of the 908, as in 2010, is to win the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup Championship, with, as its highlight the Le Mans 24 Hours race over the weekend of 11 and 12 June this year.
The all-new 908 meets technical regulations with its dorsal fin but also with its new V8 HDi FAP engine with a capacity of 3.7 litres, developing a power of some 550 bhp.
I just heard it on the radio that “Clearance Auto Insurance” offers auto car insurance for less than $1 a day for drivers, any one aware of this ? have anyone purchased insurance through them. I did search for them and found them online.
