Today in New York Chrysler took the wraps off the high performance SRT8 version of the new Chrysler 300, powered by a 465 hp HEMI V8.

The new Chrysler 300 SRT8 features a massive 6.4 liter HEMI V8 developing 465 horsepower and 465 pound-feet (630 Nm) of torque. It is not very remarkable to be honest because if you think about it, Mercedes makes 570 hp out of a 6.3 liter V8 these days! Still, that power is enough to take the hefty 300 from zero to 62 mph in just over 4 seconds and up to a top speed of 175 mph. They say it can tun the quarter mile in around 13 seconds.

That huge engine doesn’t sound to be very MPG friendly, but Chrysler has fitted it with a cylinder deactivation system which turns it into a four-cylinder engine when your are cruising around town. Although they provide no performance figures, they say it is 25 percent more economical than the previous model.

Apart form the engine, the SRT8 treatment also includes uprated suspension with Adaptive Damping system and big Brembo brakes on all four corners, special leather seats and steering wheel, carbon fiber trims and lots of SRT badges. The looks of the car is also slightly modified with new grilles, spoilers, diffuser and wheels.

No word on the pricing yet.
