The new 2013 Mustang is a cool car. But it’s nowhere near as cool as the new Boss, the 2013 302.

What we like about the Boss 302 is that its built not to be the last word in speed and handling and all that nonsense. It’s built for fun, to put a big smile on your face.

And it can do just that with a 444 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque V8 engine mated to a a short-throw, close-ratio six-speed manual. Power is delivered to a 3.73-ratio rear axle using carbon fiber plates in the limited-slip differential to improve handling and longevity. If you are more serious about your driving you can also opt for a a torque-sensing (Torsen) limited-slip diff.

Thanks to the beefed up suspension the Boss is lowered by 11 millimeters in front and 1 millimeter at the rear versus Mustang GT. It comes with lightweight 19-inch black alloy racing wheels in staggered widths: 9 inches in front, 9.5 inches in the rear wrapped in Pirelli PZero tires. The brakes are also top-notch: Brembo four-piston calipers on 14-inch vented rotors.

Design-wise, the 2013 Boss utilizes the great new features of the Mustang and enhance them with more visual drama, chief among which a bold grille, front splitter and rear spoiler. The 1970-inspired stripes are also available, while the Boss Laguna Seca will be available in vintage School Bus Yellow and black paint.

The new Mustang Boss includes Ford SYNC, the voice-activated in-car connectivity system, as a standard feature offering Hands-free, voice-activated calling via a Bluetooth-connected mobile phone and control of a USB-connected digital music player, 911 Assist, and vehicle health report diagnostic tool.

The two-seater sports/muscle car will be produced in limited numbers to maintain exclusivity.
