We waited seven years for this car, but it was worth the wait. Ladies and Gentleman, meet the new Honda (Acura) NSX supercar!
The NSX revival project has been on and off so many times we thought it would never happen. Fortunately though, someone at Honda had the stones to go ahead and make it happen.
This is of course a concept car for now, but Honda themselves have confirmed it will arrive in three years time. They’ve even mentioned a production site in Ohio where the car will be put together.
Just like its predecessor, the new NSX will be a supercar with a healthy dose of common sense. That doesn’t mean it’ll be boring. Oh no. How can a car with such amazing looks be boring. It will be clever. The new car will also be a green supercar, powered by a hybrid system.
That’s Honda’s Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) hybrid system. It is fantastically complicated, but in essence, it has 2 Electric Motor Drive Unit with a bilateral torque adjustable control system which can alter the amount of torque going to each of the wheels during cornering to eliminate any sort of over or understeer. That’s why Honda believes it will offer handling unmatched by any other AWD system.
Powering the NSX will be a VTEC V-6 engine with direct-injection, connected to a a dual clutch transmission with built-in electric motor to create supercar acceleration while offering outstanding efficiency.
“This Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system will make NSX the ultimate expression of Acura’s idea to create synergy between man and machine,” said Takanobu Ito, president and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. “The NSX will make the driver one with the car to enhance dynamic driving abilities without getting in the way.”
The return of Honda NSX was by far and away the best news of 2012 Detroit Motor Show!
