The new Chevrolet Aveo – known everywhere else as the Sonic – hits the UK, priced from £9,995.

The 2012 model comes with new design, new features and new engines, and of course a very interesting price tag and a five-year warranty on top of it to take on the Korean rivals in the hatchback-loving British market.

The car is available with a choice of four engines, including a 1.2-litre petrol unit developing 86PS, a 1.4-litre petrol engine with 100PS and two 1.3-litre VCDi diesels, with power outputs of either 75 or 95PS. All except the 1.3 VCDi 95PS come with a five-speed manual gearbox as standard (the 95PS VCDi has a six-speed), while the 1.4-litre models have the option of a six-speed automatic.

As for the equipments, even the basic trim gets a whole lot of kit as standard, including air-conditioning, cruise control, remote locking, a rear spoiler, CD-stereo radio, electrically adjustable heated door mirrors and electric front windows.

Moving up in the range, the LT model adds more luxury features – 15-inch alloy wheels, steering wheel audio controls,, a four-way adjustable driver’s seat, sunglasses holder, a Driver Information Centre, Bluetooth phone compatibility with music streaming, and a chrome gear knob surround.

The top model LTZ variant has features normally reserved for bigger and much more expensive cars, including a leather steering wheel, front fog lamps, six speakers, rear parking sensors and automatic headlamps.
