Those who put money down for Caterham’s new Sp/300R sports car will soon get their first chance to drive it.
Caterham is inviting those who have already made deposits, and the prospective customers, to Rockingham Motor Speedway on Thursday March 1, where they can put it through its paces.
It’s not a car you can drive home, mind you, as it’s a pure track car designed for track days and SP300 one-make racing series. Developed jointly by Lola, the SP is a lightweight, nimble racer built around three major principles, for which Caterham Motorsport is known for: affordability, reliability and accessibility. It also expands Caterham’s range from one to two!
The SP/300.R had its first shakedown few days ago at Jerez track in Spain with Caterham F1 driver Heikki Kovalainen at the wheel.
Kovalainen, said: “The SPR is very quick and a little like a formula car in that I could feel the downforce working and giving it lots of grip and balance. It was great fun to be able to give it a blast in Jerez and I look forward to testing Caterham’s road and race cars more often.”
Simon Lambert, Caterham Motorsport Manager, said: “We can’t wait to see how our customers react to the SP/300.R, it’s a real thrill to drive and very engaging so we know they’ll love it.
“These coming weeks are the culmination of a massive effort from a big team of people and we are very close to achieving our objective, so it’s very exciting for everybody involved. Over the coming months, there will be numerous opportunities for people to experience the SP/300.R.”
